Instructions
You are asked to select a topic for study that will help the aviation security community address a
strategic issue of particular importance to them (and you, of course).
In its most basic form, the research paper should identify the issue, describe why it is important,
and suggest what to do about it. Your paper should be a minimum of 10 pages and no more than
15 pages. The paper must use APA Style.
The research assignment has three purposes. First, in order to complete the assignment, you will have to demonstrate a grasp of the core material in the course and the ability to apply that
material through independent research and analysis. Second, the paper should be of sufficient
excellence that it could be provided to your state, community, or sponsor organization in direct
support of expanding understanding about some element of aviation security. Third, the
assignment gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to communicate complex
information accurately, succinctly, and persuasively.
Final papers are due, in electronic form, no later than March 22, 2020. Please post your paper
as an attachment in the appropriate place on Blackboard (turnitin) and email a copy to me.
*Your Research paper must include no less than 10 references from varied sources based
on your research of your topic.
At a basic level, the research process involves:
1. A statement of the problem or issue you intend to study
2. Questions about the problem or issue you want to answer
3. A review of what is known about the topic
4. The argument you intend to make (the claims, hypotheses, solutions)
5. Collecting and organizing data that relate to the issue you are studying
6. The analysis of the data
7. Presenting your findings.
