Project success is defined by the outcomes. The project selected can only be measured by its success. The failure or success can only be measured by its outcome. It is a true and correct belief that success depends on outcomes. No one can judge what the result will be.
Outcomes define the project, without any results or outcomes the promptness of the project can not be judged correctly. • Process approach: As the term indicates is the methods that are used or can be used to successfully and smoothly carry out the project. The process relates to the different ideas, techniques or methods that can be used to complete the project.
• System approach: System relates to the technology used in carrying out the project. So the system chosen must be efficient to complete the project. Also, the system should be able to record or save the data in the database for further reference in the future. The system must be capable of detecting errors in the methods or techniques used for the betterment of the project.

Your assignment for this module is to begin the first phase of your project management plan (PMP) called the Initiation Phase. As the Project Manager, you are responsible to define, draft, and manage the various document sections in the provided Project Plan Template.  Each module, you will have project management activities related to several sections of your project plan. The purpose is to provide you with an overview of basic project management skills using an electronic health record (EHR) implementation and expose you to fundamentals of EHR implementation.

Instructions:

After you have completed the assigned readings and videos, you will draft an important section of the PMP, which is the project charter and project scope utilizing this template. Each module you will draft a different section of the PMP, ultimately inserting each section into a master PMP. The master PMP is your course final project, which you will submit at the course conclusion.

When you have located the project charter template,  fill in each section of the project charter template based upon the information contained in the supplied case study.

*The PMP is an iterative learning activity which means you will learn by creating and receiving ongoing feedback on the PMP sections to build your PMP. If you have previous experience in drafting PMP documents, look at this activity as a way to understand how PMP is applied to EHR implementation.

We will utilize an outpatient EHR called Practice Fusion. This EHR is a web-based EHR that allows access to you without purchasing anything. The clinic has no prior experience implementing an EHR, but they feel assured they can accomplish a web install and system conversion (migrating from paper charts to digital content) using the skill of their staff and providers. Hardware is already provided. The following is baseline information on the clinic and project resource allocation:

The clinic acquired a small business development loan on their American Express Card business account in the amount of $20,000.00 for the entire project. This includes all startup costs, labor, hardware, and “unforeseen costs.”

The clinic has a high speed T-line, which provides internet access with Wi-Fi access throughout the clinic. There is ample hardware throughout the clinic. Each clinic exam room (there are 4) has a workstation consisting of a Dell “all-in-one” desktop with 8GB of ram and Intel i7 processor, and a 23-inch screen. The units are wall mounted and the monitor is on an articulated arm allowing the patient to see the screen when the clinician wants to share information. Each of the Medical Assistants (MAs), front office clerk, biller and directors have similar work stations. The workstation configurations meet the minimum standards for utilizing the web-based EHR.
