Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist

For this assessment, assume you are a nurse attending a meeting of your state’s nurses’ association. A nurse informaticist conducted a presentation on her role and its impact on positive patient and organizational outcomes in her workplace. You realize that your organization is undergoing many technological changes. You believe this type of role could provide many benefits to your organization.
You decide to pursue proposing a nurse informaticist role in your organization. You speak to your chief nursing officer (CNO) and human resources (HR) manager. These individuals ask you to prepare a 4–5 page evidence-based proposal to support the new role. In this way, they can make an informed decision as to whether the addition of such a role could justify the return on investment (ROI). They need your proposal before an upcoming fiscal meeting.
Proposal Format
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Human Resources (HR) manager have asked you to include the following headings in your proposal and to be sure to address the bullets underneath each heading:
Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist
What is nursing informatics?
What is the role of the nurse informaticist?
Nurse Informaticists and Other Health Care Organizations
What is the experience of other health care organizations with nurse informaticists?
How do these nurse informaticists interact with the rest of the nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team?
Impact of Full Nurse Engagement in Health Care Technology
How does fully engaging nurses in health care technology impact:
Patient care?
Protected health information (security, privacy, and confidentiality)?
Workflow?
Costs and return on investment?
Opportunities and Challenges
What are the opportunities and challenges for nurses and the interdisciplinary team with the addition of a nurse informaticist role?
How can the interdisciplinary team collaborate to improve quality care outcomes through technology?
Summary of Recommendations
What are 3–4 key takeaways from your proposal about the recommended nurse informaticist role that you want the CNO and the HR manager to remember?

Nursing Discussion / Systems Theory and Practice Issues

Purpose
The purpose of the graded collaborative discussions is to engage faculty and students in an
interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying, and critically
appraising knowledge regarding advanced nursing practice. Scholarly information obtained from
credible sources as well as professional communication are required. Application of information professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge, and
information learned and related to real-life professional situations. Meaningful dialogue among
faculty and students fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives,
and knowledge are shared.
Activity Learning Outcomes
Through this discussion, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
Examine roles and competencies of advanced practice nurses essential to performing as leaders
and advocates of holistic, safe, and quality care (CO1)
Apply concepts of person-centered care to nursing practice situations (CO2)
Analyze essential skills needed to lead within the context of complex systems (CO3)
Explore the process of scholarship engagement to improve health and healthcare outcomes in
various settings (CO4)

BSN Prepared Nursing Clinical Experience (Reflection Paper)

BSN-prepared nurses have many opportunities to reflect on their contributions to patient care outcomes during clinical experiences. After a patient care interaction, it is important to evaluate how well you addressed the criteria set for the nurse-patient interaction and consider future improvements. Research suggests that creating and sharing a script to a video reflection may enhance learning (Speed, Lucarelli, & Macaulay, 2018).
Write  3,000 – word reflection of your capstone project.

Reflection Paper (Final Year Project)

Write a reflection paper of your final year project from start to finish. Start with how you chose the topic. How you planned to finish? How did you go about it? Were there any challenges? How did you overcome the challenges? …………………these are just suggestions. You can add more. (Make it about 3,500 words).

How to write an article critique (Nursing Paper)

The purpose of the article critique assignment is to strengthen your skills at critically assessing
the literature. An assigned article will be given, and students will provide a 1-2 page single spaced
Critique of the article.
Questions are listed below each section to guide your critiques (you do not have to answer ever
single question). They are mainly to help. The article critique assignment is 4 parts:

  1. Article Summary

Provide a brief, one to two paragraph summary of the article.
Questions to consider:

  1. What is the purpose of the research?
  2. What are the research questions/hypotheses?
  3. What study design was used?
  4. What sampling methodology was used?
  5. What are the main, overall results?
  6. What limitations are stated?
  7. What are the main overall conclusions or recommendations the researchers state?

II. Article Strengths
Write one to two paragraphs on the article’s strengths.
Questions to consider:

  1. What are the strengths of the article’s introduction and research questions? Do they fill an

important research gap? Are they relevant to the field?

  1. What are the strengths of the article’s study design, methodology, or sampling strategy?

Are novel techniques used? Is a strong study design employed?

  1. What are the strengths of the article’s results and discussion section? Are the results

presented in a clear manner? Are graphs or charts utilized? Do the researchers make
strong recommendations? Are implications for the field strong?
III. Article Weaknesses
Write one to two paragraphs on the article’s weaknesses. You can organize this in the
same order the article is written (i.e., discuss weaknesses in the introduction, then the
methods, etc.), or you may organize it by discussing the most important weaknesses
first and the least important weaknesses last.
Questions to consider:

  1. What are the weaknesses in the introduction? Are the research questions not explicitly

stated?

  1. Could a better study design have been utilized? Are the authors lacking their description

of the study design, sampling methodology, and data analysis? Could other statistical
techniques be employed?

  1. Are results unclear? Are tables unorganized? Do the researchers not highlight important

results?

  1. What major limitations are discussed that you consider weaknesses of the article? What

limitations in the discussion section are missing or not discussed?

  1. Are recommendations or conclusions lacking? Are there other implications that aren’t

discussed? Did researchers “over reach” regarding their results and conclusions?

Ethical Practice in Nursing

Discuss about ethical decision making in nursing practice. How can professional practicing nurse incorporate PLUS (policies, legal, universal, self) ethical components (1,250).

Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) Advocacy

Advocacy is a critical skill for APNs to have for promoting solutions to health concerns within a community. Identify a health issue in your community or state. Discussion a systems-level advocacy strategy to address the concern. In the strategy, students should identify specific groups or individuals that they would target as well as how they would target these individuals. For example, a student may choose to contact a legislator with a letter-writing campaign and would describe strategies for implementing that campaign.

Holistic Care in Advanced Practice Nursing

Holistic care refers to approaches and interventions that address the needs of the whole person: body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Consider the following case study:
You are caring for a first-time mother in a health clinic. While assessing the woman, you notice she is becoming visibly upset. When you ask, she notes that her mother, with whom she was very close, died last year and that she really would have loved to have shared this pregnancy with her. You empathize with the patient, as your own mother just died 6 months ago. She also notes that she and her partner have been bickering a lot lately on top of her feeling generally sore, tired, and overwhelmed.
Define holistic care in your own words. Describe four ways you can implement a holistic nursing approach to care and facilitate healing. In addition, you may consider the intersection of holistic care and caritas principles from Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring/Caring Science.
