MRP system concepts and new business entity
In response to global economic conditions, Valles Global Industries (VGI) is developing a new business entity. This entity develops and plans virtual events. To do this, they have developed a kit that includes a computer with webcam that they can deliver to a client’s guest list across the world. So, for example, you could have a virtual wedding across the world with up to 500 guests and VGI will rent you everything needed to have the event at 500 separate locations. Recently, VGI has been thinking about creating a variety of event meals to deliver along with the event kit.
Your task: VGI has forecasted that they will be putting on two events a month for the next six months. One will serve 100 guests and one will serve over 300 guests. You can assume the first event occurs the first week of the month and the second occurs the third week of the month. VGI is trying to extend their corporate ERP system to serve the new events entity. They have asked you to develop this concept. Discuss your plan.
Some things to think about in doing the class project:
To do a good job, just follow the MRP system concepts. For example, I would develop:
- What you send in the kit and the packaging: that’s the product structure. It’s your call what goes in there as long as you have all the parts needed to do Zoom. For example, a laptop and ….. (can you participate in a party wearing a wired headset?)
- You know the forecast of business from the assignment. Come up with a master schedule idea.
- Figure out about how long to put the kit together.
- Figure out what items to keep in inventory.
- Where will workers come from and what will they do?
- How to pack kits and ship?
- How will people return the items? Or, do you buy cheap ones and not expect returns?
