Professional Research paper
1. Professional Topic Research Paper Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is for students to
research and learn about current topics in managerial accounting. Students will identify topics in
managerial accounting, research the topic, write a paper on their findings.
2. Research topic selection my be emailed to teaching faculty by the end of the first Module.
The research must be conducted using peer-reviewed trade or academic journals. While Blogs,
Wikipedia, encyclopedias, textbooks, popular magazines, newspaper articles, online websites, etc. are
helpful for providing background information, these resources are NOT suitable resources for this
research assignment.
Please Note: The Library staffs are very helpful with assisting students in using the Online Library journal
database. Please contact them if you have issues.
Assignment Requirements:
1. Choose a research topic from the list provided by your professor or from your own selection.
2. Research/find a minimum of at least 5, preferably 10 different peer-reviewed journal articles on
your topic from the University Library online business database.
3. The article(s) must be current/published within the last five (5) years. (The one exception is for
the History of Managerial Accounting topic – hard to find current articles on the history)
4. Write a 4 to 5 pages double spaced paper in APA format discussing the findings on your specific
topic in your own words. Note – paper length does not include cover page or References page.
5. Structure your paper as follows:
a. Cover page
b. Introduction section:
c. Title of paper
d. Overview describing the importance of the research topic in your own words
e. Purpose of Research of the article in your own words
f. Review of the Literature summarized in your own words.
g. Conclusion in your own words.
h. Personal Thoughts
i. References
6. Please review the course syllabus for deadline of each section. Lastly, upload your paper by the
Sunday of week 7th (100 points).
