This essay is about any video from a John Oliver LastWeek Tonight segment(Youtube). You will
examine the text for its rhetorical effectiveness and support a judgment of its strengths and
weaknesses as an argument. Write an essay in which you analyze the text, analyzing the
rhetorical strategies, and what you know about effective argumentation. Evaluate the way the
author goes about their inquiry, and how effectively the text achieves their purpose with their
intended audience. You should use quotations from the text to back up your assertions. Essays
must be formatted in correct MLA format and style. Essays should analyze a minimum of three
rhetorical strategies used(Ad hominems). Quotes must use the correct MLA citation style. Works
cited page must be included, and it must be in correct MLA format. And in the conclusion
determine if the argument was valid. Any John Oliver video will do but I recommend the
televangelists episode. Works cited page must be included. Instead of page numbers use
timestamps in works cited.
