Final Project Pre-Reflection

Final Project Pre-Reflection

Final Project Pre-Reflection

Assignment

Objective: Evaluate your understanding of the assignment and its objectives.  Pre-Reflection will help you (and me) identify gaps in understanding and explanation so that we may clarify and address misunderstandings early on.

Guidelines: After reading the project guidelines, reflect on the assignment. Create your own document and respond thoughtfully to the reflection questions listed below. Answers should demonstrate critical thinking, engagement with the course materials, and be written in complete sentences. Be sure to proofread your responses. Submit your answers to the appropriate D2L dropbox by the due date/time.

Reflection questions:

In your own words, what is the purpose of the assignment? What are you attempting to accomplish?

What will be the most challenging part of the assignment? Why?

Which information in the assignment guidelines is the most helpful? Why? Be specific.

What other resources on D2L and in your textbook(s) will you access to help you with this assignment? Be specific and indicate how they will help. (Hint: Look at the resources to answer this question.)

What questions do you want answered before creating and submitting the assignment? What needs additional clarification?

Final Project Topic Worksheet

Assignment

Well done! You have completed the assignment

Due September 13 at 11:59 PM

Part I: Final Project Topic Worksheet

Find three creations, creators, or cultures you’d like to explore, and explain why you think they’re a good choice for the project. There are a few ways to approach this: You may use your text or the resources available in D2L, you might get to Googling, or you may choose to explore something that you’ve always been curious about. Here are a few things to keep in mind when searching for topic:

You aren’t limited to the timeframe we cover in class (discuss anything, prehistory to present, but check your schedule to make sure it’s not already in the readings/discussions).

Try to find three things that aren’t related to one another (diversity is good).

The sample Final Projects in D2L are a great place to get a better idea of what I expect.

This is just a jumping off point; you’ll have more time to develop this topic.

Create a worksheet (a Word doc works) in which you answer the following questions about each of your potential topics:

1) Which area(s) of the humanities will you cover with this topic? (Remember must be able to discuss something related to art, literature, music, philosophy, religion, performance, theater, etc.)

2) What specific work/works will you examine in your project (ex: a specific painting, novel, song, play, film, poem, sculpture, temple, etc.)?

3) Describe what got you curious about this topic.

4) List any sources you’ve used to check out this topic’s potential (your book, a website, etc.).

5) What do you hope to learn in your research?

You’ll need to upload an electronic copy of your worksheet to the appropriate dropbox by the assigned due date, and I will give you feedback on your proposed topics (letting you know which of them have been approved and offering suggestions as to how to hone your research).

Final Project Context Progress Report

Assignment

Well done! You have completed the assignment

Due October 25 at 11:59 PM

PART II: CONTEXT PROGRESS REPORT

Research your approved topic and outline what sort of cultural events, movements, beliefs, and social and/or historical circumstances shaped the expression you’re examining. You’ll then use your research to answer the following questions, and make sure your answers are thorough, in complete sentences, and fully demonstrate how you’ll use the information you’ve uncovered in your research:

Describe any significant context that impacted/impacts the topic you’re researching.

How is this topic shaped by the context you’ve listed above (does it attempt to illuminate, refute, respond to, or reform because of this context)? Explain any details or data that have brought you to this conclusion.

How does this topic appeal to people at the time in which it was created?

Does this topic still appeal to people now?  Why/Why not?

List 2-6 sources you used for your report (sources must be reputable and in MLA citation format).  If you’re unsure whether or not a source is reputable, please feel free to run it by me.

You’ll need to upload an electronic copy of your progress report to the appropriate dropbox by the due date. I will give you feedback on your report, and I will also suggest additional areas of research.

Final Project Artifact Progress Report

Assignment

Task: Submit to complete this assignment

Due November 22 at 11:59 PM

PART III: ARTIFACT PROGRESS REPORT

Examine an artifact related to your topic and outline what sort of special techniques and formal elements make this artifact an especially appropriate expression of the culture and context you’re examining (ex: how does the creator use literary devices, visual/literary symbolism, cinematography, composition, narrative development, or rhetorical strategies to send a message to the audience).   You’ll use your examination to answer the following questions, and make sure your answers are thorough, in complete sentences, and fully demonstrate how you’ll use the information you’ve uncovered in your research:

Describe the artifact(s) that you are examining.

List any special techniques or formal elements you have identified in your examination of the artifact.

How do these techniques or formal elements help communicate a message to the audience (this message may be for a specific era/person or it may be a universal message)?

How does this message relate to the context you described in your last progress report (it’s VERY important to make this connection so that your project is cohesive)?

List 2-6 sources you used for your report (sources should be reputable and in MLA citation format).  Be sure to include citations for any images you used here, too.

You’ll need to upload an electronic copy of your progress report to the appropriate dropbox by the due date. I will give you feedback on your report, and I will also suggest additional areas of research.
