SUMMARY

Practitioners in the helping professions must be open to seeing people from different perspectives and must develop compassion for others. An understanding of the different stages of human growth and development provides insight into various populations and age groups for person-centered care.

This assignment requires you to articulate the theories for each developmental stage based on emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual factors. You are required to identify challenges associated with the chosen developmental stage and propose applicable solutions to address these challenges. You will need to compare and contrast the development stages of the mother in the scenario with the other two family members in the scenario who are in different stages of development, physically, socio-emotionally, cognitively, and morally. This assignment helps develop an understanding of the different stages of human growth and development. You will gain insight into various populations and age groups for person centered care. You may need to review ahead the textbook chapters related to stages of development in adulthood that you might not yet have been assigned in your weekly reading.

Important Note: You will primarily focus on Maria’s development in each part of your advancing development papers. But you will compare her stages of development to that of her other family members. Review Assignment Instructions and Assignment Requirements and ask clarifying questions of your instructor before attempting this assignment.

Scenario: Maria is 43 years old and is a refugee from Cuba. She just came to the United States with her daughter, Isabel, who is 23-years old, and her father, Carlos, who is 72-years old. This assignment requires you to choose one of the family members from the scenario provided. You will primarily focus on Maria’s development in each part of your advancing development papers. But you will compare her stages of development to that of her other family members. Review Assignment Instructions and Assignment Requirements and ask clarifying questions of your instructor before attempting this assignment.

Note: This scenario is brief to allow you to make research-supported assumptions about Maria’s development and potential problems that Maria might face.

In this assignment, you must analyze Maria from the scenario,

1.     Write a paper that primarily focuses on Maria, as well as compares her development with that of her family members.

●      Physical Development:

○      Cite scholarly/authoritative sources to analyze Maria’s physical development.

○      Address any aspects of Maria’s appearance, motor skills/movement, stamina, and biological (hormones) that may be affecting her physical development.

●      Social/Emotional Development:

○      Cite scholarly/authoritative sources to identify 2 theories that are related to social/emotional development for Maria’s age group.

○      Give examples of how you may see these theories in Maria’s life.

●      Cognitive Development:

○      Cite scholarly/authoritative sources to identify 2 theories that are related to cognitive development for Maria’s age group.

○      Give examples of how we might see these theories in play within Maria’s life.

○      Explain the language development for Maria’s age group.

●      Spiritual/Moral Development:

○      Cite scholarly/authoritative sources to identify 2 theories that are related to the spiritual and moral development for her age group.

○      Give examples of how you may see these theories in Maria’s life.

●      Compare and Contrast Maria’s stages of development in the four categories with the other two family members’ (Isabel and Carlos) developmental stages in those four categories. You may use the same theories as cited in #2 or use other theories.

2.     Organize papers in the following order:

  • Skillfully compares and contrasts Maria’s stages of development in the four categories with the other two family members’ developmental stages in those four categories, citing only scholarly/authoritative sources (beyond the textbook)
  • Citation Requirements: minimum of 3 scholarly/authoritative sources (beyond the textbook), properly cited 4 within the body of the paper and referenced at the end of the paper
  • Word Count: 750-1,000
