Herbals, Nutrition, and Nutraceuticals
Choose an herbal, a nutraceutical, or a nutritional item, and research a current study (last 5
years from a peer-reviewed journal) that supports or refutes that item.
Include the following:
The name of the item: List the common and Latin names, if available. Report if you were unable
to locate a Latin name.
Medical properties of the item you selected
List the medical diagnoses it can support, improve, or heal.
List the name of the chemical component in that item that has the medicinal qualities. If there is
no name of the chemical component available, record that none is available or known.
Record what you have researched on your selected item and how it is commonly used. Record if
you found no information in peer-reviewed journals.
Dosage and administration routes
Drug interactions and side effects
Record using proper grammar and in 250 words or less an interesting finding and/or conclusion
of a current peer-reviewed, research study (less than 5 years old) that supports or refutes the
item you chose. List why the study was supportive or negative towards the item you selected.
List at least 2 reasons why the study was well done or poorly done, and provide your rationale.
Additional Assignment Instructions:
The paragraph will have no more than 250 words and include the criteria as listed above. If
criteria was not found, list that you were unable to find any information from peer-reviewed
journals and why you believe you were unable to get that information.
You are to use APA formatting for any data pulled from other sources. Editors are not acceptable
for citations or references, unless there are no alternative authors for the chapters used.
Use proper grammar and punctuation in your writing.
For the first two sections, a table format is acceptable, but do not forget your APA citations for
any data you pull.
The third section will be a written paragraph that is APA-formatted, cited, referenced, and will
include at least two references (text and research study).
