Job Opportunity Assignment Criteria:
1. Interview: Interview someone via email, phone, in-person, etc. who works in an area within the criminal justice or intelligence field you wish to
pursue or is of interest to you.
(ASSIGNED FIELD: SHERIFF) THIS INTERVIEW STEP HAS BEEN DONE BY STUDENT. PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW
BASED ON RESEARCH W/ TWO GOVERNMENT SOURCES FOR BACKGROUND ON BEING A SHERIFF/ QUALIFICATION/ ETC.
Minimum Questions Asked (you can ask more, but you MUST collect this information):
i. Minimum and preferred criteria for applying for this position
ii. The current issues facing the field
iii. Common stressors associated with the field and how to overcome these issues
iv. Hurdles to employment
v. Current or future job openings
vi. What happens during the interview process
vii. Anything else you want to know
2. Research: In addition to the interview, conduct an online search about this job for the purpose of learning what is needed for employment, job
openings, salary range, benefits, etc.
a. In your paper, you must include a minimum of TWO outside government sources
3. Analysis: Based on your research and interview, analyze (i.e., employ critical thinking) your preparedness for entering the field.
a. If this is only a field of interest, offer suggestions to someone else for entering the field.
b. For example: Is there something else you can/should do to help you pursue your goals? What is your plan after graduation; meaning, what
steps will you take to enter or promote this profession?
Paper Guidelines
I. Paper Guidelines:
1. Write a 2-3 page research paper, following the APA format
Demonstrate scholarly and effective writing: format your paper with an introduction, body and conclusion, cite your sources, follow the APA
format throughout your paper (title page, running head, page numbers, reference page, in-text citations, etc.)
Abstract is NOT required
For this paper ONLY, you may use the 1st person
2. Points to address in your paper:
Your research (minimum of TWO government sources (outside of your interview)
Interview findings: incorporate your interview into the body of your paper—do not use bullet points or a question/answer format
Critical assessment of your qualifications and interest in entering the field
3. NOTE: Along with your paper, you need to attach a copy of an email from your “interviewee” to you indicating you conducted this interview.
DO NOT email; it must be submitted (attached) with your paper.
The following defines and provides examples of scholarly sources acceptable for this class.
Scholarly, Peer-reviewed journal articles and/or journal articles from approved government sources (e.g., Department of Justice, Federal Bureau
