Models of Practice

What is a model? A model demonstrates the researcher’s interpretation of how concepts are related to one another and are developed based on qualitative research. Models often are precursors to theory development. Three of the most prominent nursing models categorized as focusing on goals and functions include Nightingale’s environmental model of nursing, Johnson’s behavioral system model, and Pender’s health promotion model.

Directions

In this assignment, you will locate a model of practice that you could apply to nursing. It does not need to be a nursing model. Models of practice can be found in leadership, business, education, and technology. You will explain why you have chosen the model and apply the model to your advanced practice role in the template provided. In the first row, in the first column, write the name of your chosen model. An example has been provided in the first rows to guide you. Please remove the examples when entering your information In the first column of the template table, list the characteristics of the model you have chosen with a source/s of support. In the second column, list an application to your advanced nursing practice role upon graduation with a source of support/s. Assignment Details For this Assignment, your paper must be 2 to 3 pages, not including the title and reference pages.

Nurse Leadership Strengths

Research findings of Rath and Conchie (2008) indicate that leaders do not have to be good at
every aspect of leading. What a relief! However, to be effective change agents, these authors
argue the importance of knowing one’s leadership strengths and leveraging those strengths to
build strong teams. How does one leverage those strengths? Consider how one’s leadership
strengths could potentially weaken a team. In addition to the leadership assessment exercise,

Nurse Professional Association Membership

Examine the importance of professional associations in nursing. Choose a professional nursing
organization that relates to your specialty area, or a specialty area in which you are interested. In
a 750-1,000 word paper, provide a detailed overview the organization and its advantages for
members. Include the following:
Describe the organization and its significance to nurses in the specialty area. Include its purpose,
mission, and vision. Describe the overall benefits, or “perks,” of being a member.
Explain why it is important for a nurse in this specialty field to network. Discuss how this

Nurse Staffing Issues

In this paper, taking the approach that nurses working long hours can lead to patient dissatisfaction and nurse burnout is the approach I’m thinking. Then applying evidence base practice to the issue.
Length of submission: 2–4-page scholarly paper, this does not include the APA-formatted title page and reference list. Number of references: Cite 3–5 sources of scholarly or professional evidence that support your findings and considerations. Develop a 2-4-page scholarly paper in which you describe a quality or safety issue, or a chosen diagnosis, and then
identify and analyze credible evidence that could be used as the basis for applying EBP to the issue.
The goal of using evidence-based research findings is to enhance safety and quality of patient care and ensure
optimal outcomes are achieved. It is not uncommon to hear a nurse say, “why change it as we’ve always done it this
way.” However, this is no longer acceptable in today’s practice environment. The profession of nursing has evolved,
and the expectation is that the professional nurse has a scientific foundation to support the care that is provided. As
the profession of nursing continues to evolve and engage in health care transformation, baccalaureate-prepared
nurses are expanding taking on leadership roles that include incorporating EBPs. To be able to do this, the nurse
needs to understand the criteria and makes a resource credible, as this is crucial when deciding if the research is
valid and reliable for implementation into health care settings.
It would be an excellent choice to complete the Vila Health Determining the Credibility of Evidence activity prior to
developing the report. The activity is a media simulation that offers an opportunity to review a scenario and work on
determining the credibility of presented evidence. These skills will be necessary to complete Assessment 2
successfully. This media simulation is one potential source of context on which to base your assessment submission.
