Discussion: John, Paul And Mary

John is the sole proprietor of a business that designs web pages. He leases an office and buys computer equipment. He has an idea or a new software product, however, on which he works whenever he has time and which he hopes will be more profitable than designing Web pages. After six months, Mary and Paul come to work in the business to help develop John’s idea. John continues to pay the rent and other expenses, including salaries for Mary and Paul. John does not expect to make a profit at least until the software is developed, which could be months, and there may be very little profit if the product is not marketed successfully. John believes that if the product is successful, however, the company will be able to follow up with other products. John would like to retain overall control of the business but needs to find a way to tie the salaries of Mary and Paul to the success of the business, and needs to raise capital to implement his business plan. He also wants to limit his personal liability if the business fails.
Post one important consideration in choosing a form of business organization for this firm that will best allow it to meet John’s objectives. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this option? Suggest a written document that John should develop to reduce future liability and problems of the new business. Provide sound reasoning for your stance and back it up with references, if possible. Your logic should be factual, not emotional.

Group Business Plan

The course assessment has two elements: the submission of a Group Business Plan and an
Individual Report.
1. Group Business Plan
This assessment requires you to work in groups and submit a group business plan. The
allocation of students into groups will take place during the early part of Term 1. Students will be
able to choose which other group members they would like to work with but there will be a strong
expectation that, once they have formed their groups, students will not be expected to change
groups. Each student group will have 4-5 members (groups of three will only be considered in
exceptional cases where there is an odd number of students in the tutorial group).
As a preparation for submitting the business plan, your team will have the opportunity to present
your business idea in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style session at the end of Term 1 (to take place during
normal tutorial times). In groups, you are required to present your business plan, preparing 4-5
slides to assist you in doing this (10 minutes). You are also required to answer questions from
your tutorial leader after the presentation (5 minutes). You should be able to elaborate on the
plan and defend your analysis.
The presentation itself is not marked but aims to provide feedback to assist further development
of your business plan and your individual reflective report. Following your Dragon’s Den
presentation your team must meet and reflect on the presentation and the next steps you need
to take in order to develop your work. You will find a document on Moodle entitled ‘Business Plan
Action Plan’ which you should use in order to do this and a completed version of this document
should be attached as an appendix when you submit your Group Business Plans.
You will also work on your Group Business Plans during workshop sessions organised as a part
of the course. Attendance at these sessions is crucial and will be recorded by your tutorial
leader. Please note that your marks for the group work may be reduced by up to five marks
based on your attendance at these four workshop sessions and the peer assessment form
submitted by team members (Absence for medical appointment is the only permittable reason
for absence at one of these sessions. Any student missing a session for this reason is required
to bring photocopied evidence of this to present to the course tutor during the following week’s
tutorial).
Business plans must be 3,000 words in length (references and appendices are not included in
the word count) and must be submitted by one group member. Further guidance on the format
to be used for your business plan will be provided via lectures and seminars, and on Moodle,
once the course has started.

Strategic Business Planning

INTRODUCTION
In today’s hyper-competitive business environment, an organization’s sustainable competitive advantage is largely derived from intangible assets: human, social, and intellectual capital. Intangible assets are produced by skilled, capable workers. Human resource professionals enable current and future organizational competitiveness by maintaining an adequate supply of people with the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to produce these resources. Human resource professionals accomplish this through workforce planning, recruitment and selection of top-quality talent, and effective employee-relations management. As a human resource professional, your ability to effectively identify your organization’s need for employees, plan and implement employee recruitment and selection strategies, and manage employee relations will directly contribute to your organization’s success.
SCENARIO
You are the newly appointed director of human resource management for the police department of a city in the northeastern United States. Your organization has struggled to hire new police officers for some time. Your predecessor attempted to increase recruitment and selection of new officers by implementing an employee referral plan. However, the number of new officers hired through referrals has fallen short of hiring goals. The need for police officers intensified when your city’s newly elected mayor promised to lower crime by increasing the number of police patrols in high-crime areas. The police department has met the need for increased patrols by assigning existing police officers additional hours and paying overtime wages. As the number of hours worked and overtime payments increased over time, this practice—originally intended to be a short-term remedy—attracted unwanted attention. A front-page article in your city’s newspaper has revealed that three police officers earned higher annual salaries than the mayor, due to excessive overtime. Stung and embarrassed by this disclosure, the mayor fired your predecessor and put you in his place. Both the mayor and your boss have given orders to “reduce overtime by hiring new police officers immediately!” This mandate requires you to plan and implement new strategies to hire 25 new police officers. Fortunately, the former director of human resources left behind several documents that will help you perform these tasks. Refer to the following documents as directed when you perform the requirements below: (1) “Memo on Proposed Employee Referral Plan,” (2) “Job Description of City Police Officers,” and (3) “Data on Recruitment Sources and Methods.”
REQUIREMENTS
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. An originality report is provided when you submit your task that can be used as a guide. You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course. Create a report (suggested length of 4–6 pages) in which you address the following:
A. Analyze factors in the internal and external labor market that influence the supply of and demand for police officers by doing the following (refer to the scenario above and the attached “Memo on Proposed Employee Referral Plan” to complete these tasks):
1. Discuss three factors that are influencing labor demand.
2. Discuss three factors that are influencing labor supply.
B. Design a recruitment plan for police officers by doing the following (refer to the task attachments and your knowledge of best practices to complete these tasks):
1. Identify three recruitment objectives for your organization.
2. Develop a recruitment strategy for attracting job applicants by doing the following:
a. Determine the size of the applicant pool needed to produce 25 viable candidates (job offer-ready) using yield ratios and the recruitment data in the attached “Data on Recruitment Sources and Methods.”
b. Recommend two types of individuals who should be targeted for recruitment (i.e., the target groups listed in the attached “Data on Recruitment Sources and Methods”). i. Justify your recommendation.
c. Describe two effective methods for reaching each target group.
C. Design a selection plan for police officers by doing the following:
1. Recommend three appropriate selection methods for all target candidates.
a. Justify each of your three recommendations.
2. Describe two selection tests you will use to assess a candidate’s suitability for the job of police officer.
3. Identify two background verification checks that should be used in the selection process including the following: • type of check • when the check should be conducted in the selection process
4. Discuss four methods of evaluating the overall effectiveness of your recruitment and selection plans.
D. When you use sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, provide acknowledgement of source information for any content that is quoted, paraphrased or summarized. Acknowledgement of source information includes: • Author • Date • Title • Location of information (e.g., publisher, journal, or website URL)

Computer Presentation Assignment Help

Computer Presentation Assignment Help

Each student is to select and sign up for a topic listed in the Presentation section of the class. If you have a topic idea that is not on the list. Discuss it with the instructor. As long as it is related to the course, it is likely to be approved.

Students will research and prepare a narrated PowerPoint presentation for the class. The presentation should last 10 – 15 minutes and consist of 12-18 PowerPoint Slides. The audience for the presentation is your classmates (not the instructor). Assume your audience has the knowledge and experience of a second year computer programming student. Relate your topic to concepts we have learned in this class.

You should be able to find information online about these topics. Include a reference page with your list of sources. If you find that a particular topic is too complex for you to describe in 15 minutes, feel free to pick another topic. The instructor may need to remove you from your first topic.

There are two discussion board assignments for you to report on the status of your presentation throughout the class. Your presentation will be posted for other students to learn from and to comment on.

Here are some suggestions for producing your presentation.

  1. Do not put too much content in your PowerPoint slides. A good guideline is the 7×7 rule. Slides should not have more than 7 bullet points and each bullet point should have no more than 7 words.
  2. Full sentences and correct grammar is not required on slides.
  3. Use pictures and diagrams to illustrate the topic.
  4. You should not just read the slides, but use them to prompt your discussion.
  5. It is hard to do, but speak as if you were talking to people in the room.
  6. Animation, such as bullet points appearing as you talk about them, or images that appear or change, can make your presentation more interesting to look at.

Your presentation will be graded on both content and presentation. Students are required to watch and post comments on at least two other presentations. A grading rubric is attached to this assignment.
